God hath made this a Place of Rest
These words inscribed by John Davidson over the fireplace in the living room of the Manor House describes the way we feel about the Braes today, a place of rest and renewal.
In 1973, Ron and Lorraine Hodge envisioned a place where people could come to rest, hear the message of the Gospel of Christ, grow in that relationship, find fellowship with other believers and enjoy the outdoors. God pulled it all together in a piece of property located in upstate New York near the village of Redfield.
Gods’ providential hand made the way for the beginning of High Braes Refuge. The start of the Braes had an emphasis on youth, but soon developed into a retreat center for all ages.
Every retreat center has its’ strong point. The Braes is best suited for the church that wants to get there group away from distractions, to spend time together and with God. Though we have a few activities we can offer, the strength of the Braes is in its quiet, private location. We only offer the Manor House to one group at a time.
Our staff is ready to help you feel at home. The Braes is small and personal. We hope by the time you leave you are more relaxed, have come closer to God and others in your group, and have gained a few pounds.
The Braes is more then a place to stay, we see it as a ministry. Our mission is clear. Our desire is for each guest to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the message of salvation available only through Jesus Christ, and to experience Christian growth through Bible Study, teaching and fellowship. Free summer camping has been a part of the Braes since 1980. When your group uses High Braes Refuge for your retreat event, you are helping to keep this important summer ministry going.
